Cats, Conversations and a Change of Scene

Last week, me and Jen managed to get a last-minute break to Kalkan in Turkey. Have you ever been there? There were so many lovely cats, wonderful views and warm sunshine. I’m back now and feeling refreshed for the first time in a long time.

While I was away, I did a fair bit of thinking about work and life. But I also had a good break from it all. I got to meet other people on holiday and chat to locals. One of the best things about the holiday was those short connections, chatting to people and learning about their lives for that short moment in the sun.

There were also a lot of cats which was lovely, living their lives in the Turkish hillside. It did put things in perspective. There’s a big world out there. Sometimes you get so wrapped up in your own thing that you don’t see the millions of other lives going on around you.

When I flew over the land and sea and looked out of my easyJet plane window, I saw hundreds and hundreds of little villages, towns, cities, lakes, mountains, fields, boats, cars - life just moving forward. It certainly makes you think when you're 35,000 feet up looking down on the earth below.

The holiday was a good reminder to step outside and experience life, connect with fellow humans and stroke the occasional random cat.

I know it’s going to be a hard few weeks coming up with the busy season ahead. And I know not everything will go to plan. But when it doesn’t, I hope I’ll remember that it’s not the end of the world. Life will go on, and we can’t control everything all the time. Sometimes you just have to let go and live.

Jen bought this book on holiday "Don’t Believe Everything You Think" by Joseph Nguyen. There was a quote that stuck with me...

"what we hold on to

perpetuates our reality
what we let go of

creates new possibilities"

I thought that was quite thought-provoking. I don't know if any of this is helpful to you but it's nice to share something different this week.

Whether I'll remember any of these thoughts when something goes wrong next week is another matter! We can but try.

Thanks for reading this.
