A Reminder About Not Giving Up

I want to share this with you as something exciting happened last weekend. I wasn’t designing or working on my business. I ended up on stage. My band was invited to play at a charity event for International Women’s Day. It was really fun and we had a great time entertaining a venue full of people singing, dancing and enjoying themselves.

It’s not something I get to do very often. Most of the time I’m sitting in this small room on my own (with Pebbles of course). Running a small business can be quite solitary some days. So being in a room full of people having a good time felt like a special moment.

We were also lucky enough to perform alongside singer and actor Heather Peace. You might know her from her acting roles (EastEnders, London’s Burning). Or you might not! But she’s also a brilliant musician.

The funny thing is, I saw her perform years ago and I remember sitting there thinking “Maybe I could do that one day”

And then suddenly… there I was, on stage with her.

It made me realise that very occasionally, the things you inwardly hope for can sometimes actually happen. Usually because you keep going. You don't give up on your dreams.

Running a small business can feel a bit like that too. You have an idea, or something you want to create. You work away at it, often on your own, not always knowing if it will work out. You keep trying. You keep believing.

Behind Jin Designs it’s me doing the designs, marketing, admin, answering emails. And of course, trying to create designs and products that connect with people. I guess that’s why so many of my designs end up being about animals and the things that make people feel connected. I may not physically connect with many people during my working day but virtually I am trying to bring that connection through my creations.

That brief moment on stage reminded me why all of this matters.

I guess it’s a lesson in not giving up on the things you dream of or hope for. It could be playing music, running a small business, starting something new or just trying something you’ve always wanted to do.

Not everything works out and not everything will be a success. But you keep going. And you try. And you make sure you enjoy the journey too.
