Planting a tree with every order

At Jin Designs, we know that every little bit helps when it comes to fighting climate change. That's why we are excited to announce our partnership with Ecologi, a company dedicated to reducing global emissions through tree planting and renewable energy projects. For every order received, we will be planting a tree in areas affected by deforestation. 

We know that as a small business, our impact may be limited, but we hope to set an example for other companies and do our part in creating a more sustainable future. Jin Designs is already working towards bringing joy and beauty into people's lives with simple designs and good quality products. Now we hope to support climate action and contribute to the health of the planet. 

It's estimated that small businesses create on average around 20 tonnes of CO2 per year. Whilst it's very hard to control a lot of outside factors that may be creating the CO2, for instance, the carbon emissions from manufacturers and suppliers, we do have choices and there are small steps we can take. 

You’ve probably heard of a few of these tree planting schemes now. And you might be feeling a little wary. Greenwashing is on the up as companies compete to prove their green credentials in the hope of appealing to more customers.

But Jin Designs is genuinely keen to make some changes and become more sustainable and pro-active towards climate change.

Carbon offsetting is one way. For example, planting trees now to offset the current carbon produced. Trees take around 25 to 40 years to grow so their impact on carbon will be felt in the future. This is a slow process but it is something. And something is better than doing nothing.

In the meantime, as a small business we can look for more ways to reduce our own carbon impact. In the last year we have stopped using bubble wrap and moved to brown paper for wrapping and posting fragile items. This is a big change. We are reducing the number of polybags used and all bags in future will be brown paper, including jiffy bags.

We no longer wrap greeting cards in cellophane, and most products sent to us from source are no longer individually wrapped in plastic.

In terms of the products, we want to work with more environmentally friendly suppliers, those that care about the environment and are prepared to offer sustainable production methods and recycled materials. If we all make the changes together, we can make a difference to climate change. It may be small but it has to start somewhere.
